A Word From Fr. Michael

People from different walks of life and levels of faith are warmly welcome at St. Bartholomew’s Parish.  Without reservation, everyone is welcome here.  We seek to incorporate into our daily lives an understanding that the church exists for all people, that absolutely everyone needs the saving grace of Jesus Christ and that He defeats sin, changes lives, cures addictions and reconciles us to God.  Wherever you are in your faith, come seek and you will find the reconciling love of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement

"To know Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Scripture; and by the power of the Holy Spirit to serve Him and further God's Kingdom on earth by making disciples in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."

Our Vision

We see St. Bartholomew’s Parish as

A Church of Gifted Members.  Our ministries go far beyond just those of the church staff, and our members will be trained and empowered to be leaders, caregivers, and nurturers.  Each and every member from our youngest to our oldest will be well equipped to personally share the good news throughout our diverse community.

A Church That “Feels” Small.  We believe that the future of the local church lies in choice and intimacy.  We will always look for and find new ways to “feel” small and maintain our reputation for friendliness while offering the great ministries our God-given resources make possible.

One Church With Multiple Worship Opportunities.  Instead of being a church with one service, we choose to be one church with multiple services.  Each service will maintain the unique characteristics of St. Bartholomew’s Parish, while offering intimate specific ministries as varied as the people who attend them.

A Church of Leadership Teaching Leadership.  Recognizing that for those who have been given more, more will be expected (Luke 19:26, Matthew 25:15f), St. Bartholomew’s will share our leadership findings and gifting with other local congregations, our diocese, and our national and international Anglican church.  We want to share the gifts that God gives us, not hoard them.

A Church That Expects Miracles.  St. Bartholomew’s Parish will strive to follow the pattern set by the original church in Acts 2:42-47, and actively expect the same miraculous blessings.

Therefore, in the years to come, St. Bartholomew’s Parish will increase God’s Kingdom with: More Christians, Better Christians, And Changed Lives.

Seven Basic Premises at St. Bartholomew’s Parish

Premise 1 – St. Bartholomew’s Parish exists for those who are not yet members.

Premise 2 – We welcome and accept people wherever they are in their faith journey, and trust God to take them where He wants them to be, and on His timetable.

Premise 3 – People want relationships, not religion.

(1)  Authentic Christianity is a relationship, not a religion.

(2)  They don’t care what you know until they know that you care.

(3)  Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came.

Premise 4 – Positioning:  We play to our strengths.  We aren’t interested in trying to be another church.  We learn from others, but adapt what we like to our situation.  There isn’t one single way that works, or one size that fits all.

Premise 5 – Just because we’ve always done things in a certain way is not, in and of itself, a sufficient reason for continuing to do it that way.  God loves us just the way we are, but He doesn’t expect us to stay that way.

Premise 6 – God pays for what He orders.

Premise 7 – With God, nothing is impossible.

We are indebted to Church of the Cross, Sullivan’s Island for the genesis of this shared vision.

History of St Barthlomew's ParishMVC-538F
A brief history

From the first service held in 1902, the Rev. Albert Thomas used the biblical text for his sermon, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:  for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth."  (Romans 1:16).  For over a century, these words have encouraged us to remain loyal to our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Living now in the 21st century, these timeless words continue to call us be Christ centered while seeking to follow His Great Commission to share the Good News and summary of the law and the prophets to love God completely and our neighbors as ourselves.
