Mission & Outreach

Mission Statement

"To know Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Scripture; and by the power of the Holy Spirit to serve Him and further God's Kingdom on earth by making disciples in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."

It is All About God!

It is important to note that the Mission and Outreach Ministries at St. Bartholomew's Parish are not about what we are doing, but are about what God is doing and allowing us to be a part.  This is more than semantics.  We are called to enter into the activies of Jesus and to allow Him to lead us.  It is all to His Glory!

Last year we gave hundreds of volunteer hours and over $5,000 in direct cash gifts in addition to other gifts and use of our facilities in service and love.  This year we seek to do even more.  Come join us as we seek to serve Jesus by serving others in His name.

Mission and Outreach

Mission & Outreach are an integral part of our common life together at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. Why?  Because, God throughout the Old Testament declares a special love and concern for the poor, widows, orphans and travelers (i.e. those who are dependent upon others).  Jesus teaches us in the New Testament an even broader definition of love in action.  Here is what Jesus says as recorded in the Gospel of St. Matthew, Chapter 25:35-40:

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'  Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'   The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'"

Hear what comfortable words our Saviour Christ saith unto all who truly turn to him.

COME unto me, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you. St. Matt. xi. 28.

So God loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. St. John iii. 16.

Hear also what Saint Paul saith.
This is a true saying, and worthy of all men to be received, That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Tim. i. 15.

Hear also what Saint John saith.
If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the Propitiation for our sins. 1 St. John ii. 1, 2.

We at St. Barts are . . .

Christian  Followers of Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord who seek to fully worship God, to love our neighbor as we love ourselves and to proclaim through the power of the Holy Spirit the Good News that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that those who believe in him shall have eternal life.

Anglican  We are part of the Body of Christ: The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus ca. 33 AD and draw our Christian roots from the Church in Britain established during the apostolic era.  As such, we subscribe to the Holy Bible as containing all things necessary for salvation, the Historic Creeds of the Catholic (Universal) Church and Anglican formularies and are both Catholic and Reformed.

Episcopal  We are governed by a Bishop and successor to the Holy Apostles and subscribe to three Biblical orders of ministry that come from the people (laity):  Deacons, Priests, and Bishops.  The Rt Rev Mark J. Lawrence, is the XIV Bishop of South Carolina and The Rev Dr Michael E Ridgill, CfSB, SSC is the Rector of St. Bartholomew's Parish.

Not perfect but are forgiven sinners and invite you to join us for Worship, Christian Education, Service and Proclamation of the Gospel.  It has been said that the church is both a hospital for sinners and a gymnasium for making saints.

Where do I start?  Join us for worship, the best way to know what we do, is to experience what we do in community.
