Children's Ministry

Love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)

Ministry to children is an important component of our identity at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.  Our Sunday school has classes for all ages, including a staffed nursery.  We gather on Sundays at 9:15 for Biblical Faith Formation in a fun and exciting atmosphere with dedicated teachers.  We offer Godly Play, a Montessori based program for preschool and elementary age children (see below).

Every Sunday at the 10:30 am liturgy those children who would like to go are invited to gather around the children’s cross after the Collect of the Day and process into the chapel.  In the chapel, they will enjoy a liturgy similar to that of the adults, but offered on a child’s level with lots of energy and excitement. The children will return at the Passing of the Peace. Children’s Chapel is optional because children are an integral part of St. Bartholomew’s and are always welcome at any liturgy or event.    There are also regular events for children and families outside of a formal church setting.  For more information, please speak with Kathy Walker or Fr. Michael or by calling the church office at 332.8765.

When the church gather, we understand that children are part of the family.  For potluck suppers, our Advent wreath making, or receptions, children are present and always welcome.  To assist parents, there are activity bags available for children to take into the 10:30 a.m. service or any service for that matter.  The bags include Children's Worship Bulletins that are based on the day's biblical readings with coloring pages and other activities.  This can help occupy those wiggly hands and feet.  These blue bags can be found in the narthex area.  Children are welcome at all services, and especially on Sunday evenings, our 5:30 p.m. service is especially suited to families and youngsters as it is very casual. Please feel free to worship and learn with us.

On Wednesday evenings we offer Kingdom Kids, led by Kathy Walker our Minister to Families.  Kingdom Kids begins after the Wednesday Eucharist with supper at 6:10 pm with the structured activities running from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Come be a part of God's family at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.

Safeguarding God's Children

St. Barholomew's Parish as part of the Diocese of South Carolina has a policy for the protection of youth and children from abuse.  We also strive to make the physical environment as safe as possible for children and accessable for the differently abled.

Musikgarten

On Wednesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm, Devvy Ridgill offers Musikgarten for preschool age children for a forty-five minute session.  Wednesdays are for children ages 3 and under and Thursdays are for children ages 3 - 5.  Parents are encouraged to attend with their child(ren).  Devvy Ridgill is trained and certified by Musikgarten and Musikgarten’s programs are based on meeting the developmental needs of children as they grow.  Favorite songs, stories, and dances are revisited throughout – building on what each child has mastered and enjoyed – making successful learning easier.  For more information, please contact Devvy Ridgill at the parish office or by email.

Godly Play

This montessori based curriculum is based on a child's natural curiosity and invites each child to explore our biblical faith and traditions.  Please speak with Kathy Walker or Fr. Michael for more information and be sure to click on the links below.
